The NSW Waratahs have secured lock Dean Mumm on a one year contract for the 2016 season. A former Waratah, Mumm earned 95 caps for the Tahs in between 2004-2012, before he joined English Premiership side the Exeter Chiefs on a three year deal.

Captaining the Exeter side and leading the side to LV Cup victory in 2014, the former Waratah and Wallaby is reportedly returning to Sydney later this year in a bid to make the World Cup squad, a much needed signing with the loss of Kane Douglas, Sitaleki Timani and Ben Mowen over the past two seasons.

The Australian second row stocks could be further bolstered with speculation growing of the return of former Waratah Kane Douglas. Douglas signed on with Leinster on a three-year deal at the end of the 2014 Super Rugby season, but is expected to get an early release and return to Australia for the World Cup.

Waratahs CEO Greg Harris said he was extremely happy with the signing of Mumm.

"We're absolutely delighted that Dean will be coming back to the Waratahs, to have a player of his experience and reputation will be a great asset for the team," Harris said. "Dean has had a very successful career, both previously at the Waratahs and during his stint with the Exeter Chiefs, and we're very fortunate to be able to have someone with his playing experience and leadership skills back at the club."
