New Blues coach Tana Umaga has completed his coaching team for next year's Super Rugby campaign by appointing Paul Feeney as an assistant. Auckland ITM Cup head coach Feeney will oversee the backline attack and skills at the Blues, who have contracted two other assistants - defence coach Alastair Rogers and forwards coach Glenn Moore.

Former North Harbour fullback Feeney will take a step-up in coaching career that has spanned 14 seasons, including international stints in Fiji and Japan and at provincial level with East Coast, North Harbour, Bay of Plenty and Auckland. Umaga said Feeney had performed well as an assistant with the Blues development team for three years.

"He stood out to us among some very impressive candidates for the job, and we believe he will also fit very well into this new coaching group," Umaga said. "Paul has the advantage of knowing a number of our players and this unique environment in Auckland, and of course understands the new culture of change that this organisation continues to strive for."

Moore is the only coach retained from the 2015 coaching team who oversaw a disappointing Blues campaign, finishing in a record-low 14th place with three wins. Head coach Sir John Kirwan stood down in June while assistants Grant Doorey and David Hill have moved on.
