Dan Carter's Super Rugby days aren't quite over, with the former All Blacks first-eighth expected to line up for his French club Racing 92 against the Highlanders in February.

Carter, who amassed 112 Tests in a stellar 12-year career, retired from international rugby after the All Blacks' 34-17 World Cup win over Australia at Twickenham.

It will be the third time in three seasons Racing 92 have played in Hong Kong, but the first time for defending Super Rugby champions the Highlanders.

Carter will face some familiar faces in former All Blacks team-mates Aaron Smith, Malakai Fekitoa, Waisake Naholo and Ben Smith.

"We are excited to be meeting Super Rugby champions Highlanders and are confident that rugby and sporting fans worldwide will be riveted by this unique north-south match-up," Racing chief executive Arnaud Tourtoulou said in a statement.
