Dan Carter turned in another impressive performance for Racing 92, the World Rugby World Player of the Year scoring his first try in blue and white as the Paris-based club claim top spot on the Top 14 ladder.

The New Zealand legend has been in rare playmaking form since moving to Paris after the Rugby World Cup, in which he play a pivotal role as the All Blacks went back-to-back, but he had not scored a try in either the Top 14 or the European Rugby Champions Cup.

But that changed in the 55th minute at Stade Olympique Yves-du-Manoir, where French flanker Yannick Nyanga secured turnover ball before a chip-and-chase from South Africa full-back Johan Goosen set the fly-half away to touch down near the posts. Carter also kicked three conversions as Racing replaced Clermont Auvergne atop the ladder.

Toulouse went level with Racing on 43 points with a comprehensive home victory over Pau, for whom Carter's former Crusaders and All Blacks team-mate Colin Slade kicked a goal to record the visitors' only points, while Toulon, featuring Quade Cooper, Ma'a Nonu and Drew Mitchell in a high-profile backline, overcame Stade Francais to leap-frog the slumping Clermont into third place.

Adam Ashley-Cooper, meanwhile, returned to action on the left wing as his Bordeaux Begles side lost to Castres.

Elsewhere in Europe, former Brumbies and Wallabies second-row and back-rower Mark Chisholm scored the only try of the game, in the fifth minute, as Munster defeated Zebre in Parma to maintain their Guinness Pro12 hopes. The Australian worked his way over the line after a powerful rolling maul, with the TMO deeming that he had got the ball down.

Kiwi-Born Thomas Waldrom crossed again in the Aviva Premiership, scoring his seventh try of the campaign, and his 11th in all competitions, as Exeter Chiefs maintained their league title push against Worcester at Sixways, while Australian Peter Betham and New Zealander Mike Fitzgerald were on the winning side after Samoan prop Logovi'i Mulipola had scored a last-minute try converted by Tommy Bell to secure victory for Leicester Tigers against Laurie Fisher's Gloucester. Tonga winger Telusa Veainu also scored as the Tigers were indebted to their Pacific Islanders.
