Monfils topples Isner to reach final

Top seed Gael Monfils edged past John Isner to reach the final of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington.

After a lengthy rain delay, Monfils secured a 6-4 3-6 7-6(6) victory on a third-set tiebreak. Isner battled valiantly, firing 19 aces, but Monfils eventually booked his place in the final in the early hours of the morning.

He will now play Radek Stepanek, who made his first final of the season by defeating Donald Young 6-3 6-3 in one hour and 19 minutes. Young, playing in his first ATP Tour semi, coughed up three breaks that allowed Stepanek to move one step away from a fourth career title.
