Andy Murray concedes he still has plenty of work to before the US Open, despite recording a convincing win over Alex Bogomolov Jr at the Western & Southern Open.

The Scot has bounced back impressively in Cincinnati following a humiliating opening-round reverse against Kevin Anderson at the Rogers Cup last week.

He began his second-round clash with Daniel Nalbandian shakily, with his serve in particular looking suspect, but finished strongly to claim a straight-sets triumph.

He followed that up with a 6-2 7-5 success against Bogomolov Jr - a sturdier performance that showed clear signs of improvement ahead of the US Open. But Murray is refusing to rest on his laurels ahead of the year's final grand slam.

"I was hitting the ball a little bit cleaner today," said Murray. "I would still definitely like to do things better. I didn't move particularly well, and that's something that I'll need to improve on in this kind of 10, 11 days before the US Open. I want to try and make sure that's perfect before the start of the US Open."

Murray will play tenth seed Gilles Simon, who beat David Ferrer in three sets, in the quarter-finals in Cincinnati.
