The weather continues to wreak havoc with the US Open, with officials taking the decision to postpone the men's action for the day - meaning Andy Murray will head back to his hotel having played just three games against Donald Young.

Tuesday was a total washout and it was not much better on Wednesday, with three of the men's fourth-round games only able to get in 15 minutes of play.

USTA officials were hopeful of windows of opportunity being made available to them. There were occasions when the rain did relent, but as soon as the clean-up operation began the heavens opened again.

And at 5.30pm local time (10.30pm in the UK), the decision was taken to send the men home for the day. There is a huge backlog in the men's section, with four fourth-round games - including Murray's clash with Young - still to be played.

Murray was quick to give his thoughts, writing on Twitter: "Cancelled for the day! Don't believe it."

There is still hope that the women's singles quarter finals can be played at some point in the day, but that is weather dependent.
