Andy Murray could meet Roger Federer in the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

The British No. 1 is seeded fourth for the ATP Masters 1000 tournament and has been handed a bye in the first round. He is in the top half of the draw with world No. 1 Federer, meaning he could meet the 16-time Grand Slam champion in the semi-finals.

Federer beat Murray in the Australian Open final in January to deny the Scot his first Grand Slam title, but he is more than capable of beating the world No. 1, and recorded a 6-3 4-6 6-1 semi-final victory to reach the final at Indian Wells last year.

Murray will face the winner of Robby Ginepri and Andreas Seppi in the second round, and should he get through his first three matches unscathed, a potential quarter-final clash with either Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or Robin Soderling awaits.

In the bottom half of the draw, defending champion Rafael Nadal is seeded to meet Dubai champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

In the women's draw, Svetlana Kuznetsova is the top seed, with Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki is seeded to meet her in the final. In-form Russian Elena Dementieva is seeded fourth behind Victoria Azarenka.

British No. 1 Elena Baltacha meets American wildcard Alexa Glatch in the first round, while Anne Keothavong will play Anna Chakvetadze.
