Murray romps into Bangkok quarter-finals

Andy Murray marked his return to action with a convincing victory at the Thailand Open in Bangkok.
Murray, playing in the tournament for the first time since 2006, faced little resistance as he booked his place in the quarter-finals with a 6-4 6-2 win over Germany's Michael Berrer.
Berrer was bidding to avenge his defeat at the French Open earlier this season, but had few answers to the world No. 4, who produced a masterclass in shotmaking. The Scot set up his first break point with a backhand passing shot before patient baseline strokes forced the German into sending a return long.
A simple service hold followed before Murray continued to pile the pressure on Berrer's serve. The German resisted two break points, forcing Murray to serve for the set, and the top seed wrapped up the opening set with ease.
But it was not all plain sailing for Murray. Early in the second set, the Scot was forced to save two break points of his own, but he swiftly turned defence into attack, forcing Berrer onto the backfoot with a backhand lob that landed perfectly on the line.
Having dug himself out of trouble, Murray turned the tables on Berrer, breaking to take a lead in the second set and tighten his grip on the match. Another break of serve soon followed as Murray eased to a comfortable victory to set up a quarter-final clash with Grigor Dimitrov.
Elsewhere, second seed Gael Monfils beat Santiago Giraldo 6-4 4-6 6-1, while at the Malaysian Open, there were wins for Nicolas Almagro, Viktor Troicki, Janko Tipsarevic and Nikolay Davydenko.
