Victory for Broady but agony for Robson

There was mixed news for Britain's female tennis players on Saturday, with Naomi Broady winning her Generali Ladies Linz qualifier while Laura Robson suffered defeat at the Japan Women's Open.
Broady was first on court for her opening-round qualifier, and the Brit needed just 70 minutes to beat Arantxa Rus. Completing five breaks whilst staying solid on her own serve, Broady roared to a 6-0 6-2 victory.
Rus was afforded just two points on her second serve in the first set as Broady instantly established her authority. The Dutch player improved marginally in the second stanza, but Broady offered up just one break point in an assured display.
It was a different story for Robson in Osaka, following a 7-6(4) 6-4 defeat to Su-Wei Hsieh. Robson's lack of mobility cost her in a tight match where both players were penetrable on serve.
The young Briton created and conceded nine break points in the match, crucially converting four compared to Hsieh's five to miss out on qualification.
