Andy Murray has insisted the players should be given a say on the next Davis Cup captain, if John Lloyd is removed from office.

Murray sat out Great Britain's embarrassing defeat to Lithuania, the fifth on the spin under Lloyd, that set them on course for a play-off with Turkey.

Lloyd is taking stock of his position, while there are calls for him to be replaced - with Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski touted as possible successors.

Murray is no certainty to make himself available to face Turkey in July, he has made it clear in the past that he will not jeopardise his tour ambitions for the Davis Cup, but he feels the players should be consulted.

"If John does lose his job, I would like the players to have a say - and this is not just about me," Murray said. "It's not down to me alone. If there are 12 players in a room and eight of them say they would be happy with Greg being captain, then he should be the captain.

"It is about getting the right man, the one who can best motivate the players. They should have a strong say, but, of course, in the end it is down to the LTA to decide."
