Andy Roddick's hopes of qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals in London were dealt a blow by David Ferrer, who came from a set down to reach the Shanghai Masters semi-finals.

Roddick, who has slipped to 15th in the world rankings, looks set to miss out on the year-end championships at the O2 Arena, but victory in China would have handed him an outside chance of qualifying.

The former world No. 1 took the lead, coming from behind to snatch the tiebreak after a tight opening set, but Ferrer hit back to level after two breaks of serve.

And the third seed, who booked his place at the finals earlier this week, wrapped up a 6-7(5) 6-2 7-6(2) victory after clinching the decider on another tiebreak.

Next up for Ferrer is fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez, who beat Rafael Nadal's victor Florian Mayer in straight sets. With Lopez seeing off the challenge of sixth seed Tomas Berdych on Friday, both players came into the match on the back of big wins, but Lopez had more in the tank, firing 10 aces as he claimed a 6-2 6-4 victory.

Meanwhile, on the other half of the draw, second seed Andy Murray remains on course for a hat-trick of titles as he takes on Australian Matthew Ebden, with Kei Nishikori awaiting in the semi-finals after the Japanese upset Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-4 6-3.
