Andre Agassi put on a show for the crowd as the Hit for Haiti set out to make $1 million for the Haiti earthquake victims.

Agassi teamed up with Rafael Nadal to take on Pete Sampras and Roger Federer, but the tennis was secondary to the spectacle of seeing four greats on court together at Indian Wells. For what it mattered, Sampras and Federer won 8-6 - the same scoreline as Martina Navratilova and Justine Henin beat Steffi Graf and Lindsay Davenport in the women's event.

A crowd of over 16,000 saw tournament organiser Larry Ellison present a cheque for $1m to the American Red Cross Haiti relief and development fund.

All the players wore microphones and Agassi orchestrated things, teasing his old rival Sampras throughout. Agassi challenged a line call and fired a forehand that narrowly missed Sampras who, after being berated for being a poor tipper, crashed a huge overhead towards Agassi.

The crowd lapped up the humour and tennis spectacle, but the message was not forgotten as Ellison said: "We hope it's going to be more than a million dollars.

"What we guaranteed was at least a million dollars but people are continuing to make contributions. With a little bit of luck, we'll tally everything up and we'll go over the million dollar target."
