Novak Djokovic eased fears over his fitness as he navigated his way past Ivan Dodig to reach the third round of the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris.

Djokovic's participation in the event was in doubt after the world No. 1 injured his shoulder in Basel last week, but with a £1 million bonus at stake, the Serb recovered to secure a routine 6-4 6-3 victory.

After opening the match with an ace, the top seed struggled to get a stranglehold on the match as Dodig put up dogged resistance. A late break of serve clinched the opening set, but Djokovic was far from his dominant best.

But Djokovic, who has lost just four matches all year, pulled out all the shots in the book to clinch the all-important break in the second set, and the Serb wrapped up the match with an ace.

Djokovic will now meet fellow Serb Viktor Troicki in the third round after the No. 15 seed beat Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-4 6-4.

Roger Federer, winner in Basel last week, produced a rock-solid display to ease into the third round with a win over Adrian Mannarino. The Swiss found the courts in Paris to his liking and was totally commanding on serve, winning 36 of 40 points played. The dominance on serve allowed him to pile pressure on his French opponent and he broke on three occasions in a 6-2 6-3 win. He will meet Richard Gasquet in round three.

Fourth seed David Ferrer booked his place in the third round with a 6-4 6-4 win over Nicolas Mahut. Next up for the Spaniard is Alexandr Dolgopolov, who progressed with a 6-3 7-6(6) win over Philipp Kohlschreiber.

Janko Tipsarevic kept his faint hopes of qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals in London alive with a dominant victory over Alex Bogomolov Jnr. Tipsarevic, who must reach the final in Paris to have a chance of qualifying for the year-end championships, powered past the American 6-1 6-0 in just 51 minutes.

Mardy Fish is the current occupier of the eighth and final spot in the year-to-date rankings, and he breezed past Florian Mayer 6-1 6-2 late in the evening. That victory ended Gaels Monfils' hopes of qualifying for the year-end tournament in London, and things got worse for the Frenchman who bowed out on home soil 6-3 6-4 to Feliciano Lopez.

Elsewhere, there were victories for John Isner, Andreas Seppi and Juan Monaco.
