Andy Murray has warned the LTA that he does not want his coach Miles Maclagan to be considered for the role of Great Britain's Davis Cup captain.

LTA player director Steven Martens has begun the task of seeking out a new captain following John Lloyd's decision to fall on his sword in the wake Britain's embarrassing defeat to Lithuania.

A number of names have been thrown into the mix, with Murray's coach Maclagan among them. Maclagan has played a huge part in helping his fellow Brit realise his potential and Murray is unsettled by the prospect of seeing the partnership broken up.

"I am happy with the way things are working out," Murray said. "I don't want Miles to be the coach of the Davis Cup."

As Britain's highest-ranked player, Murray may well be involved in the selection process and he has insisted he would be against an in-your-face captain. "I don't need someone yapping in my ear the whole match," he said.

Murray believes that a big name such as Greg Rusedski would not necessarily be the best appointment and has called for a fresh approach to the Davis Cup.

"Since I was young the only people to be mentioned as captains are ones that are either famous or the best players of the previous generation," Murray said. "It might be nice to try something new.

"I don't think that's the way they necessarily do it in every country or that's the only way it can work. I think it's important to make a statement with the next captain."
