New Spain Davis Cup captain Alex Corretja will speak to both Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer in an attempt to change their decision to stop playing in the competition.

World No. 2 Nadal and team-mate Ferrer both announced their intention to stop participating in the team competition at the start of December, after leading their country to a third win in four years with victory against Argentina.

Both players cited the fatigue caused by playing in so many additional matches as the reason for the decision but Corretja, who has agreed a two-year deal to replace Albert Costa as captain, will soon speak to both men in an attempt to change their minds.

"My duty as captain is to talk to all players and all coaches," Corretja said. "Neither player has told me they will not play, this is what they said in the press.

"If there are players who feel they have to rest, I will respect this and try to make the best possible team for each tie."

Corretja has coaching experience after working with British No. 1 Andy Murray for a stint - and he believes that experience will stand him in good stead as he tries to continue a great recent run of success.

"It's a nice challenge," he added. "I bring all my experience, what I experienced as a player and later as a commentator from outside and when coaching Andy Murray, an experience that I have learned a lot from."
