Hewitt rubbishes retirement rumours

Former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt insists he has no plans to call time on his career and has dismissed retirement rumours as "a load of rubbish".

Hewitt has slipped to No. 186 in the world rankings following a series of injuries in recent seasons, but the former Wimbledon champion insists he has no intention of retiring.

"Retirement talks have been around since I was 26, because I was a 10-year veteran by then, so for me it's just a load of rubbish," he said.

"I go out there and do my job and I'm fortunate that I'm in a sport that I can choose when I want to stop when the time is right.

"I'm probably more motivated now than even a couple of years ago really. Sometimes you just go through the motions a little bit I think, and you take everything for granted."

Hewitt kicks off the 2012 season in Perth, partnering Jarmila Gajdosova in the Hopman Cup ahead of the Australian Open, where he has been awarded a wildcard for the event.
