Djokovic and Nadal skip Davis Cup ties

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal will both be missing from the first round of this year's Davis Cup after their gruelling Australian Open final on Sunday.

The pair put on the longest grand slam final in pro tennis history in Melbourne, slugging it out for five hours and 53 minutes as Djokovic eventually saw off his dogged Spanish rival.

Both men will now rest their bodies as the Davis Cup enters the 2012 calendar, with Serbia announcing a team missing Djokovic's name on Tuesday. Instead, they will rely on Janko Tipsarevic, Viktor Troicki, Ilija Bozoljac and Nenad Zimonjic against Sweden.

Spain will be without their entire Davis Cup-winning line-up for their match with Kazakhstan. Both Nadal and David Ferrer will be absent, but they still boast plenty of firepower in the likes of Nicolas Almagro and Juan Carlos Ferrero.

Andy Murray is another who will not feature, but Roger Federer will play as Switzerland take on USA in the tie of the round. The Swiss will be buoyed by the absence of Bob Bryan, who usually forms one half of USA's magnificent doubles partnership, due to the imminent birth of his child.
