Keothavong falls in Thailand

Anne Keothavong failed to continue her impressive run at the PTT Pataya Open as she fell to Indian No. 1 Sania Mirza in Thailand.
The British No. 2, who claimed her first victory over a top-20 player when she toppled second seed Dominika Cibulkova on Tuesday, failed to build on her first-round heroics as she slumped to a 6-4 7-5 defeat to the world No. 111 on Thursday.
The Indian, who claimed her first win of 2012 with a first-round win over Ayumi Morita, burst out of the blocks, racing to a 3-0 lead before Keothavong was able to settle into her game, and the Brit was unable to find a way back into the set.
Keothavong started brightly in the second set, grabbing an early break, but Mirza clawed her way back, saving break point at 5-5 before breaking Keothavong in the final game to seal victory in an hour and 40 minutes.
Mirza will face Hsieh Su-Wei for a place in the semi-finals after the Chinese Taipei qualifier defeated Japanese veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm 7-5 6-0. Also through to the quarter-finals is third seed Daniela Hantuchova who beat Urszula Radwanska 6-3 6-2, while eighth seed Vania King saw off Alla Kudryavtseva 6-1 6-3.
At the Open GDF Suez in Paris, No. 2 seed Marion Bartoli took a while to get going before cruising to victory over Petra Martic. Bartoli was trailing 4-5 in the opening set but won seven straight games to take control of the match, routing her opponent 6-1 in the second set.
"I had never played her before so I had to try to work her out tactically speaking at the start of the match," Bartoli said. "I was playing the ball down the middle too much and wasn't able to get enough behind my service - the first set was really wearing. But once I got the lead, things got a lot better."
Seventh seed Roberta Vinci needed three sets to see off qualifier Bethanie Mattek-Sands, while German ninth seed Angelique Kerber was taken to a decider before prevailing 6-3 4-6 6-3 against Monica Niculescu. Klara Zakopalova blasted aside 2010 Wimbledon semi-finalist Tsvetana Pironkova 6-0 6-3, while qualifier Mona Barthel strolled past wild card Pauline Parmentier in straight sets.
