Keothavong crushed by Radwanska

Anne Keothavong was blown away by Agnieszka Radwanska in the second round of the Qatar Total Open on Wednesday.
The British No. 2 came into the contest in fine form, having worked her way through qualifying and then taking out Tamira Paszek. But she failed to adapt to the blustery conditions and paid the price for a string of unforced errors in her 6-1 6-2 defeat.
Keothavong looked nervous early on and dropped her opening service game to love - which set the tone for the remainder of the match. A Radwanska love hold for 3-0 saw her take 12 of the first 13 points.
Radwanska's power hitting from the back of the court was relentless and not even a fortunate net cord could prevent Keothavong from falling 4-0 behind. Keothavong got on the board with a hold in the sixth game, but a booming forehand on her third set point secured the opening set for Radwanska.
Fifteen unforced errors flew off the Keothavong racket in the first set and it cost her dear on the step up in class. Radwanska broke serve at the start of the second and Keothavong, who looked to be struggling with a strain of some description, slipped to defeat in a shade over an hour.
Caroline Wozniacki was sent spinning out at the hands of Lucie Safarova who saved three match points in her 4-6 6-4 7-6(3) victory.
Wozniacki looked set to advance, despite dropping her serve at the start of the final set, as she had match points on the Safarova serve. But she passed up all three chances and was made to pay as Safarova recovered from falling a mini-break down to take the match in the breaker.

Wozniacki was not the only former world No. 1 to see her competition ended early, with Ana Ivanovic beaten by Petra Cetkovska in straight sets. Ivanovic simply could not defend her second serve, losing 20 of 29 points en route to a 6-4 6-4 loss.
No. 16 seed Julia Goerges was another to suffer a shock defeat as she crashed out 7-6(4) 7-6(5) to qualifier Varvara Lepchenko. In a match featuring 12 breaks of serve, two tiebreakers were required to separate the players.
There were no such troubles for Victoria Azarenka, who needed exactly one hour to defeat Mona Barthel. Azarenka broke seven times and dropped just 19 points on serve in a 6-1 6-0 victory.
Shahar Peer has often shown up well in Qatar and she proved much too good for the No. 8 seed Jelena Jankovic - winning 7-6(3) 6-2. Sam Stosur was also impressive in a 6-4 7-6(5) win against Sorana Cirstea.
There were no alarms for the fifth seed Marion Bartoli who cruised to a 6-2 6-0 win over Anabel Medina Garrigues, but the No. 6 seed Vera Zvonareva was forced to retire when trailing 7-5 3-2 to Monica Niculescu.
Elsewhere, Yanina Wickmayer toppled seventh seed Francesca Schiavone 7-6(4) 6-4, Christina McHale beat 12th seed Peng Shuai in three sets, and 14th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova saw off Maria Kirilenko 6-4 6-4.
