Unseeded Julia Goerges stunned defending champion Caroline Wozniacki to reach the final of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

Making her debut in Dubai, Goerges had already seen off the likes of Svetlana Kuznetsova and Daniela Hantuchova en route to the semi-finals, and her blistering forehand proved too powerful for Wozniacki as she claimed a 7-6(3) 7-5 victory.

In a match that saw 11 breaks of serve, it was the German that drew first blood, and she twice grabbed a lead in the opening set, only to be pegged back by Wozniacki. With Goerges serving for the set at 5-3, the former world No. 1 produced superb defence to break back before a love service game got her back on level terms, only to surrender the opening set on a tiebreak.

Goerges, who had never beaten Wozniacki on hard courts, tightened her grip, breaking Wozniacki's opening service game after a lengthy struggle. However, she was unable to hold onto her advantage as four breaks of serve ensued. After a topsy-turvy tussle, a superb forehand winner clinched the crucial break, and Goerges held her nerve to wrap up a third consecutive victory against the Dane.

Goerges will now face Agnieszka Radwanska in Saturday's final after the Pole overcame a wobble to beat Jelena Jankovic 6-2 2-6 6-0.

Radwanska raced to a 4-1 lead before wrapping up the opening set in a little over half-an-hour, but was well beaten in the second as Jankovic levelled proceedings. However, the fifth seed regrouped to storm through the deciding set to book her place in the final.
