Radwanska beats Goerges to Dubai title

Agnieszka Radwanska claimed her eighth career title with a 7-5 6-4 victory over Julia Goerges in the final of the Dubai Duty Free Championship.
Goerges produced a brilliant effort to beat Caroline Wozniacki in the semi-finals, but she could not repeat the dose as No. 5 seed Radwanska prevailed.
Georges was undone by a lack of consistency from the baseline. At times she produced some blistering play, particularly on the forehand wing, but too often the German's radar was slightly awry, with shots missing either the baseline or sideline by fractions.
The opening set was a tight affair, but two breaks of serve moved Radwanska ahead.
Goerges cut a frustrated figure at the end of the first set and her mood was not improved by the errors that flew off both wings at the start of the second.
She fell 4-1 behind and tossed up her arms in frustration, but that appeared to free her up as winners started to flow.
Goerges ran off three games on the spin in rapid time and had chances to break at 4-5. She had a look at a second serve at break point, but it went begging and a couple of points later Radwanska was able to celebrate victory.
"Julia played some great tennis and I had to be at my best," Radwanska said. "I took it point by point, it was all very tight. I was just trying to focus on my game and I am delighted to have closed it out.
"I tried to stay calm and focused as it is very easy to get nervous."
Unseeded Sofia Arvidsson caused an upset in the final of the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships as she got the better of fourth seed Marina Erakovic. The Swede claimed a 6-3 6-4 triumph, dominating her highly-fancied opponent as Erakovic struggled badly on her first serve.
Elswhere, at the Whirlpool Albierto Monterrey tournament, second seed Sara Errani was bundled out in the semi-finals by Timea Babos. The Hungarian will now face unseeded Alexandra Cadantu following her win over Greta Arn.
