World No. 1 Novak Djokovic was denied an easy route into the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open as he was taken to three sets by Spaniard Pablo Andujar.

The Serb survived a wobble to claim a 6-0 6-7(5) 6-2 victory to remain on course for the defence of his title at Indian Wells.

Djokovic looked to be cruising to victory after storming through the opening set without dropping a game, but was stopped in his tracks by the world No. 45 Andujar, who rallied to win the second set tiebreak and force a deciding set.

While Djokovic was forced to save eight break points, Andujar failed to save any of the five he faced as the top seed ultimately proved too strong for the determined Spaniard.

Djokovic will face another Spaniard in the last eight after Nicolas Almagro stunned seventh seed Tomas Berdych 6-4 6-0.
