I'm just as good as last year - Djokovic

Novak Djokovic has warned his rivals he is at the peak of his powers heading into the clay court season.

While the Serb has not been as dominant as he was last year, Djokovic successfully defended his Sony Ericsson Open title with victory over Andy Murray on Sunday.

Djokovic did not drop a set in Miami, and Murray had no answer to the world No. 1's serve as he succumbed to a 6-1 7-6(4) defeat.

And ahead of the European clay season, which kicks off on April 15 in Monte Carlo, Djokovic believes he is playing some of his best tennis.

"I feel that being No. 1 and having the best year of my career in 2011, I'm playing at the peak of my form and I'm playing the best tennis that I have played," Djokovic said.

"So I have to use that as much as I can, coming into every tournament that I play. The competition is getting stronger, I believe. Everybody is so professional nowadays.

"You have the top players playing in all the top events. That wasn't the case maybe five, 10 years ago. So that makes it even tougher for anybody to win a title. But I'm ready for it."

Djokovic's victory in Miami last year was part of an extraordinary 43-match unbeaten streak that saw him win seven consecutive titles. Defeats to Murray and John Isner have seen Djokovic miss the chance to defend his titles in Dubai and Indian Wells this year, but the five-time grand slam champion insists he is not concerned by dropping points.

"The season was incredible, especially the opening five, six months of the year," Djokovic said of his 2011 achievements. "Every year is different. I'm coming in this year with a grand slam win and now a Miami win, a couple of semi-finals. I think I'm playing equally well as I did 12 months ago.

"But again, it's different ... I still want to fight for every title, like everybody else. I have this positive mindset, not really defending or calculating how many points I can lose and things like that. So every tournament for me is equally important."
