Andy Murray will face world No. 68 Sergiy Stakhovsky in the second round of the Barcelona Open, after the Ukrainian beat Russian Evgeny Donskoy on Monday.

Stakhovsky, 26, was not at his best at either the beginning or the end of the contest, but ultimately outplayed qualifier Donskoy in the middle parts of both sets to run out a 6-2 6-3 victor in just over one hour. He will now meet Murray, the second seed at the clay court event, on Tuesday.

Murray is looking to bounce back after a disappointing performance at last week's Monte Carlo Masters, as he continues his preparations for the French Open at Roland Garros.

Elsewhere at the tournament, there were opening victories for Jarkko Nieminen, Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Santiago Giraldo - who could face Murray in the third round.

The Colombian beat 18th seed Denis Istomin 7-6(3) 6-4 to book his place in the next round. He will now face Robin Haase, who was leading Sergei Bubka 6-1 3-2 before the Ukrainian was forced to retire.
