Heather Watson's Estoril Open open campaign came to an end as she was beaten in straight sets by Petra Cetkovska in Portugal.

Watson, who had to come through qualifying to reach the main draw, claimed an impressive win over Lucie Hradecka on Tuesday, but was well beaten by the fourth seed 6-3 6-1.

Watson saved three match points to avoid a bagel in the second set, but it merely delayed the inevitable as the Czech wrapped up victory in an hour and 31 minutes.

Meanwhile top seed Roberta Vinci booked her place in the quarter-finals with a routine win over Portuguese wildcard Maria Joao Koehler. The Italian needed less than an hour to secure a 6-2 6-0 victory.

Vinci will meet Nadia Petrova in the last eight after the Russian profited from Jarmila Gajdosova's retirement. Petrova had won a tight first set on a tiebreak when the Australian offered her hand.

However, it was not such plain sailing for second seed Maria Kirilenko, who was dumped out by world No. 133 Karin Knapp. Kirilenko looked to be on course for a routine win when she raced through the opening set, but was helpless to prevent the Italian qualifier storming back to claim a 1-6 6-1 7-5 victory.

Also through to the quarter-finals is sixth seed Kaia Kanepi, who beat Vania King 6-3 6-4. However, fifth seed Zheng Jie was dumped out by Galina Voskoboeva in straight sets, while Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro progressed at the expense of Polona Hercog.
