The AEGON Classic looks set to carry over into next week after rain further disrupted play in Birmingham.

Running behind schedule after inclement weather caused havoc with the schedule all week at the Edgbaston Priory Club, the quarter-finals are yet to be completed after showers on Saturday.

Chinese qualifier Zheng Jie was the first player to book her place in the semi-finals, returning to the court on Saturday to complete a 6-3 5-7 6-4 victory over fourth seed Roberta Vinci.

Zheng now awaits the winner of the last-eight clash between former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic and Misaki Doi, which was abandoned for the day due to rain.

On the other side of the draw, eighth seed Ekaterina Makarova beat Hsieh Su-Wei for a place in the semi-finals. She will now meet the victor of Melanie Oudin's encounter with fellow American Irina Falconi.

Meanwhile at the AEGON International at Eastbourne, Elena Baltacha moved a step closer to a place in the main draw with a 7-5 6-2 qualifying win over Chang Kai-Cheng.

There was also a victory for Johanna Konta, who overcame Naomi Broady 3-6 6-1 7-6(4) in an all-British battle. However, Emily Webley-Smith threw away a one-set advantage in a 6-7(3) 6-3 6-2 loss to Andrea Hlavackova.
