Murray can't thwart Djokovic at Boodles

Andy Murray's preparations for Wimbledon failed to receive a boost on Thursday, as he was beaten by world No. 1 Novak Djokovic at The Boodles.

The Scot succumbed 6-4 6-4 to the reigning All England Club champion, in a contest that was delayed for a number of hours due to heavy rain.

Not too much should be read into the result, as both players were clearly not playing to their maximum capability - perhaps looking to avoid injury on the damp surface. Nevertheless, after being beaten by Janko Tipsarevic at the exhibition event on Wednesday, Murray has now lost all three of his grass court appearances so far this season.

Murray previously lost to Nicolas Mahut in his first match of the AEGON Championships at Queen's last week.

"The purpose of these matches is to really have fun and not to feel too much pressure and enjoy a practice match before Wimbledon starts," Djokovic stressed.

Murray was broken to love in the opening game against Djokovic, as the Serbian cruised to the opening set. The second set was a bit more competitive - Murray did break his opponent on one occasion - but Djokovic once again emerged victorious during a game played in good spirits.

Murray will now need to work to get his game in shape for the start of Wimbledon next week - but there was at least some good news for him on Thursday, as the 25-year-old was confirmed as Team GB's representative for the men's singles tournament at London 2012.
