Murray: I was desperate for talking to end

Andy Murray made clear his relief that the serious business had started at Wimbledon after demolishing Nikolay Davydenko in the first round on Tuesday.

Murray needed a mere one hour and 34 minutes to cruise past the former world No. 3 6-1 6-1 6-4 and set up a second-round tie against Dudi Sela or Ivo Karlovic.

It was a serious statement of intent from Murray, a multiple semi-finalist at SW19 - but who is still searching for his first grand slam title. And he was pleased to send a message out to the doubters who have questioned whether he is ready to end Britain's long wait for a victory in the men's singles competition.

"The first two sets were very good, I got off to a great start and then relaxed," Murray told BBC Sport. "It's been a long time waiting around since Queen's, I've been itching to get going … I've been desperate to get going because there's so much talk.

"I was hitting the ball very clean and used my slice very well. Changing the pace of the ball was very important. I've potentially got Karlovic next, there will be very little rhythm in a match like that and I need to strike the ball well."
