Ferrer thrashes Del Potro to set up Murray clash

Andy Murray will have the chance to avenge his French Open defeat to David Ferrer in the Wimbledon quarter-finals after the Spaniard eased past Juan Martin Del Potro.

The No. 7 seed was expected to struggle with Del Potro's power, but his speed and agility neutralised the Argentine's explosive forehand as he raced to a 6-3 6-2 6-3 victory.

Ferrer will now face Murray on Wednesday after the world No. 4 dodged the showers to see off Marin Cilic in straight sets.

While Murray had to deal with rain delays on Court One, there was only a brief stoppage to close the roof on Centre Court. When play did eventually begin, it was Del Potro who started the stronger, as Ferrer was forced to fend off four break points, while Del Potro fired an early statement of intent with a love service game.

The former US Open champion dictated the opening exchanges as his powerful forehand pressed Ferrer behind the baseline, but as Ferrer settled into his game he began to use the angles to force his opponent around the court.

Ferrer offered his opponent no chance to settle and made just eight unforced errors, making huge inroads on Del Potro's second serve as the Argentine won just nine points from 22 attempts. Ferrer did not face another break point as he wrapped up victory in an hour and 43 minutes to reach the last eight for the first time at the All England Club.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga survived a scare as he came from a set down to beat Mardy Fish. The Frenchman, who reached the semi-finals last year, appeared to be in some trouble when he had a medical timeout for a back injury, but rallied to claim a 4-6 7-6(4) 6-4 6-4 victory.

Next up for Tsonga is Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber, who brought Brian Baker's stunning Wimbledon campaign to an end with a 6-1 7-6(4) 6-3 victory. There will be two Germans in the men's quarter-finals for the first time since 1997 after Florian Mayer defeated Richard Gasquet 6-3 6-1 3-6 6-2 - the No. 31 seed will face defending champion Novak Djokovic for a place in the semi-finals.
