Tipsarevic cruises through in Gstaad
The No. 1 seed remains firmly on course for victory at the Suisse Open, as Janko Tipsarevic dropped just three games in his 6-2 6-1 win over qualifier Jan Hernych.
The Serbian produced a performance of total dominance, as he powered down seven aces in a match that lasted just 62 minutes.
Paul-Henri Mathieu battled back from a set down to book his place in the semi-finals of the Suisse Open with a 4-6 6-1 6-4 win over Ernests Gulbis.
The fifth seed was sent packing in Gstaad, as Thomaz Bellucci claimed a 6-3 6-3 win over Feliciano Lopez. Bellucci will face Grigor Dimitrov in the semi-finals following his 6-3 6-2 win over Lukasz Kubot.
At the German Tennis Championships, top seed Nicolas Almagro saw off the threat of sixth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber, the Spaniard winning through 7-5 7-5. With neither man serving with much distinction (both players' first-serve percentage was below 50 for the match), opportunities to break were plentiful and it was Almagro who did the most damage.
No. 3 seed Juan Monaco is next up for the Spaniard after he booked his passage into the semi-finals in Hamburg courtesy of a 6-3 7-5 win over Jeremy Chardy.
Wildcard Tommy Haas won the all-German affair, dispatching seventh seed Florian Mayer 6-1 6-4. Haas, the world No. 49, saved all three break points he faced en route to a straightforward victory in 71 minutes.
