Murray returns from Olympic high with a win

Coming off the high of winning Olympic gold at Wimbledon, Andy Murray looked comfortable as he beat Italian Flavio Cipolla in the second round of the Rogers Cup.

Murray, flying out to Toronto just days after his big win over Roger Federer in London, needed just 30 minutes to roar out into a one set lead against Cipolla and, although injury seemed to hold him back a bit in the second stanza, eventually claimed a 6-1 6-3 victory in just over 90 minutes.

The Scot picked up where he left off as he fired down ace after ace in the opening set of the match, but began to feel his knee as the contest entered the second set.

Cipolla spotted his opponent's discomfort and attempted to use it to his advantage, but Murray gritted his teeth and got the job done - easing into the last 16 of the competition, where he will face Milos Raonic.

"My body feels a bit sore, I need to make sure I pace myself in the next few weeks leading up to the US Open," Murray said afterwards.

Novak Djokovic justified his position as top seed as he comfortably accounted for Australia's Bernard Tomic 6-2 6-3. Djokovic required 71 minutes to record victory, losing just 14 points on serve in the process, while Tomic's recent poor run of form continued.

While Murray did not to appear unduly affected by his Olympic assertions, bronze medallist Juan Martin del Potro looked out of sorts as he crashed out to Radek Stepanek, 6-4 7-6(5).

The sixth seed was not the only big name to be ousted from the competition, however, as third seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga also suffered an early exit. The Frenchman was edged out by compatriot Jeremy Chardy, who looked fresher as he claimed a 6-4 7-6(4) victory.

Fifteenth seed Florian Mayer and ninth seed Gilles Simon were the other high profiles player to go out, as Marin Cilic, Tomas Berdych and Richard Gasquet all moved on.
