Murray refuses to panic after Cincinnati exit

Andy Murray insists his US Open preparations remain on track after crashing out of the Cincinnati Masters.

Murray, who pulled out of last week's Rogers Cup with a knee injury, will have just three matches on the hard courts under his belt ahead of the US Open after he was beaten in straight sets by Jeremy Chardy.

However, Murray refused to panic and will not apply for a wildcard to play a tournament next week, and instead will head to New York to practise at Flushing Meadows ahead of the final grand slam of the year, which begins on August 27.

Murray pointed to the fact that he lost his opening match at Queen's and went on to reach the Wimbledon final for the first time as evidence that a lack of match time was not necessarily detrimental to his hopes of landing his first major.

"I won't play any more matches," Murray said. "When going into the big tournaments, sometimes I've won titles in the build-up and it hasn't helped me.

"This year I lost in the first round at Queen's then made the final at Wimbledon for the first time. I have won Queen's before and not done well at Wimbledon.

"So it doesn't normally have that much bearing. But obviously I would have liked to have done a bit better this week."
