Djokovic earns shot at Del Potro as Federer cruises

Novak Djokovic remains on course for back-to-back titles after dominating Marin Cilic in their quarter-final at the Cincinnati Masters.

Djokovic won the Rogers Cup last week - his first title in more than four months - and is on track to add another to his collection following a 6-3 6-2 victory over Cilic that took 81 minutes to complete.

Juan Martin Del Potro, who beat Andy Murray's conqueror Jeremy Chardy 6-1 6-3, will be next up for Djokovic.

Meanwhile, Cilic's dismal record against Djokovic continues: he has now lost all seven of their meetings, taking just one set in the process. He never looked like snapping that streak, surrendering one break in the first set and then two more in the second.

With the victory, Djokovic continues to appear a serious force ahead of the US Open, where he will not have the injured Rafael Nadal in his way. It has been a rapid turnaround for Djokovic after he lost to Murray and then Del Potro in his semi-final and bronze-medal matches at London 2012.

World No. 1 Roger Federer had little trouble dispatching tenth seed Mardy Fish to reach the final four. Federer claimed a 6-3 7-6(4) triumph on Friday evening, despite his American opponent heaving down 10 aces during the contest.

Federer was rarely tested, as Fish did not create a single break point, while the Swiss played an intelligent, high-percentage game.

Should Federer progress beyond the semi-final stage he will have reached his eighth ATP Tour final of 2012. In order to do that, he will need to overcome compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka in the final four, after he edged out Milos Raonic 2-6 7-6(5) 6-4 in their quarter-final.
