Beaten Djokovic insists US Open will suit his style

Novak Djokovic expects conditions to suit him at the forthcoming US Open, as he looks to get backing to winning ways in the grand slams.

After being almost unbeatable for much of 2011, Djokovic has found 2012 altogether more testing - winning the Australian Open at the start of the campaign but subsequently being trumped in the French Open, Wimbledon and Olympic tennis tournament.

A win at last week's Rogers Cup was a welcome return to form, but Djokovic was on the losing end again on Sunday - as Roger Federer beat him to claim his fifth career Cincinnati Masters title.

It was Djokovic's fourth straight defeat against one of his main rivals - Federer, Rafa Nadal and Andy Murray - but the Serbian was keen to look at the positives ahead of Flushing Meadows.

"The conditions here are quite different from US Open," Djokovic said. "It's a bit slower there, which I think goes in my favour a little bit more, more suitable to my style of the game. I'm going to have a week that I think is very necessary for me right now mentally and physically."

He added: "I have made more than I expected after Olympic Games. I lost only one match in two weeks on two 1000 events, which is great success.

"So I'm actually feeling good about myself at this moment. I really look forward to New York."

Federer is also confident heading into the final grand slam event of the year - a confidence stemming from becoming the first player ever to win the same ATP Tour event five times.

"When I was a kid, I wasn't thinking of winning five Cincinnatis," Federer said. "But then again, here I am in this great situation being able to do it - the first man ever.

"It's been another amazing week for me, and I'm having a magical summer. So it's obviously very nice. And I'm excited about New York now. But I'll first savour this one for a bit."

Both men remain first and second in the world rankings, with Juan Martin del Potro rising slightly to eighth following his semi-final appearance.

In the women's game, Li Na returns to the top ten at ninth after her victory over Angelique Kerber in the final in Cincinnati.
