Andy Murray will play Alex Bogomolov Jr in the first round of the US Open, with the Olympic champion drawn in the same half as world No. 1 Roger Federer at Flushing Meadows.

Murray, who has been seeded third, could take on Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarter-finals, while five-time champion Federer - who starts his campaign against Donald Young - is a prospective last-four opponent.

Bogomolov is ranked No. 73 and had success against four-time grand slam runner-up Murray earlier in the year, breaking serve seven times en route to a 6-1 7-5 victory at the Sony Ericsson Open.

Should Federer, the top seed, triumph, he will become the first man in 87 years to win the US Open six times. Novak Djokovic, chasing a second title in New York, meets Italian Paolo Lorenz, and there is an intriguing first-round clash between Argentinian compatriots Juan Martin Del Potro and David Nalbandian.

In the women's draw, Olympic mixed doubles silver medallist Laura Robson begins against a qualifier, though three-time US Open champion Kim Clijsters could lie in wait in the second round.

Fellow Brits Anne Keothavong and Heather Watson face tricky opening matches, with the former drawn against Li Na of China and the latter set to meet Germany's Angelique Kerber.

Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka opens against Aleksandra Panova, with a mouth-watering tussle with Maria Sharapova a possibility in the last four.

Three-time winner Serena Williams tackles Coco Vandeweghe ahead of a possible last-four showdown with Agnieszka Radwanksa, while sister Venus, a two-time victor at Flushing Meadows, gets her bid underway against fellow American Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
