Winds of change
When play was suspended at Flushing Meadows on Saturday, Novak Djokovic had a face to match the stormy clouds swirling overhead. With David Ferrer dealing better with the blustery conditions, the Spaniard was on the verge of taking the opening set when play was abandoned and the stadium evacuated. Resuming on Sunday morning under a cloudless blue sky, Djokovic's game was as dazzling as the weather as he powered to a 2-6 6-1 6-4 6-2 victory to reach his third successive final.

How to beat Djokovic
It appears Ferrer may have figured out how to beat Djokovic, but it does require some external help. With Djokovic dominating play in perfect tennis conditions on Sunday, the world No. 5 could have been forgiven for wishing for the tornado to return. With that in mind, Djokovic's final opponent Andy Murray may be praying to the wind gods ahead of Monday's final.

Going the distance
Victoria Azarenka fell agonisingly short against Serena Williams, but in winning the second set, the world No. 1 did something that no woman at the US Open had done in 17 years as she forced a decider. It was the first time the women's final went to three sets since Steffi Graf beat Monica Seles 7-6(5) 0-6 6-3 at the 1995 US Open.

Lobtastic
Williams pulled a winner from nowhere early in the final, as she was sent reaching low to her left to retrieve a backhand after Azarenka pounced on a net cord. Not only did Williams get her racket on the ball, she somehow managed to fashion a lob over Azarenka. The world No. 1 thought about the smash, but opted to leave it, only for the ball to land plum on the baseline. That brought up a third break point, and Williams was soon 2-0 up in the opening set.

Dancing doubles
Four days after Sara Errani defeated friend and doubles partner Roberta Vinci in the US Open quarter-finals, the pair were celebrating in style after winning the women's doubles crown with a 6-4 6-2 victory over Czech pair Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka. Errani didn't even crack a smile after her win over Vinci, but after landing their second grand slam title, they celebrated in style with a colourful dance routine, with Vinci trying in vain to teach Justin Gimelstob to dance.

Broady falls short
Liam Broady failed to follow in the footsteps of Andy Murray and Oliver Golding after he fell in the final of the US Open boys' final. Broady battled from a set down to level the score against second seed Filip Peliwo, but was broken late in the deciding set as the Canadian secured a 6-2 2-6 7-5 victory.
