Kirsten Flipkens clinched her maiden WTA victory with a 6-1 7-5 victory over Lucie Hradecka in the Bell Challenge on Sunday.

Flipkens, 26, had never reached the final before in such an event - but did not look nervous at all as she moved on to take victory over her eighth-seeded opponent.

It took just 69 minutes for the Belgian to win, as she breezed away with the opening set and then held her nerve in crunch time of the second to secure the title in Quebec.

The win capped a memorable week for Flipkens, as she had already beaten top seed Dominika Cibulkova and third seed Mona Barthel prior to her final appearance.

Earlier in the day there was disappointment for Britain's Heather Watson, as she lost in the doubles final in agonising circumstances.

Part of the top-seed pairing with Alicja Rosolska, Watson succumbed after a super-set decider as Tatjana Malek and Kristina Mladenovic ran out eventual 7-6(5) 6-7(8) 10-7 winners.
