David Ferrer joined Roger Federer at the head of the 2012 match-wins leaderboard by defeating Alex Bogomolov at the Malaysian Open.

Ferrer now has 61 wins to his name in a season which has seen him take home five titles. He needed just 83 minutes to swat aside Bogomolov 6-4 6-2 in Kuala Lumpur.

But while top seed Ferrer strolled into the third round, other leading players saw their involvement in the tournament curtailed early.

Feliciano Lopez, seeded fifth, had no answer for the tie-break prowess of big-serving Dutchman Igor Sijsling, losing 7-6(0) 7-6(2).

Elsewhere, fourth seed Alex Dolgopolov was conquered by Alejandro Falla 6-3 3-6 6-3.

Meanwhile, second seed Juan Monaco and third seed Kei Nishikori both progressed.

At the Thailand Open, Viktor Troicki was the biggest name to fall in the second round, having picked up an unlucky draw against unseeded Gael Monfils, the 7-5 7-5 victor.

Elsewhere, there were triumphs for Richard Gasquet and Milos Raonic.
