Robson mystified by recent success

Laura Robson is struggling to put her finger on the reason behind her recent success as she closes in on a place in the world's top 50.

The British No. 1 has won seven of her last eight matches, reaching her first WTA final last week in Guangzhou before racing past Japanese veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm in the opening round of the China Open.

A strong showing for Robson, who was ranked outside the world's top 130 at the start of the season, would see her crack the top 50 for the first time. Robson, who linked up with new coach Zeljko Krajan in August, admits she is mystified by her recent form.

"I don't know what it is," Robson said. "I don't think it's China because I haven't really left the hotel in Guangzhou or here (Beijing) yet apart from to go to Starbucks. I think the courts suit me here because they are usually quite fast."

While Robson insists her ranking is not a top priority, she admitted it was a welcome consequence to a strong run of form.

"After this week I should be pretty close," Robson told AFP. "It's definitely a target -- but it's not a like a goal, I haven't spoken to my coach about it. It's just if it happens it will be really good but I've got to keep winning here for sure and do well in Osaka (next week) to have a chance."
