Grigor Dimitrov defeated Pablo Andujar to set up a second-round clash with Novak Djokovic at the Shanghai Masters.

The highly-rated 21-year-old claimed a 7-5 6-3 victory to secure a mouthwatering encounter with the world No. 2, who was crowned China Open champion on Sunday.

The Bulgarian grabbed a late break of serve to snatch the opening set as Andujar missed the chance to force a tiebreak, before a single break in the second set was enough to secure victory.

Dimitrov, who has reached three ATP World Tour semi-finals this season, will look to claim his second career win against a top-ten player when he takes on Djokovic.

There was a shock elsewhere in the draw, as Nicolas Almagro was ousted by German veteran Tommy Haas - who came from behind to stun the No. 9 seed. Almagro suffered a major blow to his hopes of qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals as he succumbed to a 4-6 7-6(4) 6-2 reverse.

Haas will face another Spaniard in the second round, after Tommy Robredo reached the second round following a 7-6(4) 6-4 win over Alex Bogomolov Jr.

Marin Cilic defeated Lukasz Kubot 7-5 6-3, while Sam Querrey hit 11 aces in a 6-3 6-1 win over Chinese wildcard Zhe Li.

Richard Gasquet set up a potential second round clash with Lleyton Hewitt after a 6-2 6-3 win over Brian Baker, while Alexandr Dolgopolov got the better of Jeremy Chardy with a 6-3 6-2 victory.
