Tsonga survives Paris scare

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga overcame another hurdle in his bid to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals by beating Julien Benneteau at the BNP Paris Masters.

Tsonga, who needs to reach the quarter-finals to confirm his place at the London event, took the second-round clash 6-2 4-6 7-6.

He served for the match at 5-3 in the third set and was promptly broken - only to recover his composure to triumph in a tiebreak.

Former champion Tomas Berdych was pushed by Andreas Seppi in the opening set, before taking out the tiebreak and cruising to a 7-6(6) 6-2 victory.

Meanwhile, Paul-Henri Mathieu booked a second-round tie with Andy Murray by beating Roberto Bautista-Agut 6-4 7-5.
