Sam Querrey recovered from being blown away in the opening set to cause a Halloween shock by dumping Novak Djokovic out of the BNP Paribas Masters at the second-round stage.

Djokovic, who is guaranteed to end the season as world No. 1 following Roger Federer's decision not to play this week, was beaten 0-6 7-6(5) 6-4.

Djokovic arrived on court wearing a Darth Vader mask, and that sent Querrey spiralling towards tennis' dark side as he surrendered the first set to love, winning just ten points in the process.

Querrey did not get on the board until the ninth game of the match, but he gathered momentum from that success, finding more rhythm in his service game and took the second frame on a tiebreak.

One more break in the third handed him his first victory over Djokovic in their fifth meeting, completing a comeback that looked impossible at the start of the second stanza.

The No. 10 seed, John Isner, is also out after he was beaten 6-4 7-6(5) by wildcard Michael Llodra. Isner hit 15 aces yet still lost to the veteran Frenchman.

Elsewhere, David Ferrer is one victory away from equalling his best performance at the tournament after crushing fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers 6-1 6-3. Juan Martin Del Potro also made safe progress, seeing off Alejandro Falla 6-2 6-2.

Janko Tipsarevic breathed life into his chances of qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals with a 6-4 7-6(0) triumph over wildcard entrant Igor Sijsling. Tipsarevic will earn a spot at the season-ending London tournament if he reaches the Paris final.

Twelfth seed Richard Gasquet's hopes are over though after he was ousted by Kevin Anderson 7-6(5) 4-6 6-1, while there were also wins for Gilles Simon, Juan Monaco, Milos Raonic and Nicolas Almagro.
