Ferrer closes out Tsonga in Paris

David Ferrer got the better of home favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to reach the semi-finals of the Paris Masters.

The Spaniard did not face a single break point as an out-of-sorts Tsonga was left to rue 35 unforced errors after slumping to a 6-2 7-5 defeat.

Tsonga, who sealed his place at next week's ATP World Tour Finals in London by reaching the quarter-finals, struggled to settle into his rhythm as Ferrer put the pressure on from the outset, and was rewarded with a break in the fifth game.

That seemed to dent Tsonga's resistance, and Ferrer streaked away to wrap up the opening set in 33 minutes.

There was little between the pair in the second set, but just as it looked destined for a tiebreak, Tsonga was guilty of losing focus and found himself 0-40 down.

Although he saved two match points, he was unable to stave off defeat as Ferrer sealed victory in an hour and 20 minutes. The only seed left in the draw, Ferrer will now meet Frenchman Michael Llodra after the Frenchman defeated Sam Querrey 7-6(4) 6-3.

Jerzy Janowicz's giant-killing run in Paris continued as he dispatched Janko Tipsarevic. Janowicz, who stunned Andy Murray on Thursday, recovered from a slow start to blow away the No. 8 seed before Tipsarevic retired with the score at 3-6 6-1 4-1.

The Polish qualifier will play Gilles Simon in the semi-finals after the Frenchman upset Tomas Berdych 6-4 6-4.
