Petrova demolishes Wozniacki in Sofia

Nadia Petrova dominated Caroline Wozniacki to win the Tournament of Champions in Sofia on Sunday.

Petrova, the second seed in Sofia this week, proved far too strong on the day for the only woman in the field ranked above her - bullying Wozniacki on the way to a 6-2 6-1 victory that took just shy of 90 minutes.

It was the 30-year-old's third tournament victory of the year, earning her a victory prize of around £169,000 as she rises to 12th in the world rankings.

"It's a great way to finish the season," Petrova said after receiving the trophy.

Wozniacki came into the final in form but found Petrova too hot to handle on the day, as the Russian saved every break point she gave up on the way to a comfortable victory.

Meanwhile, at the Taipei Ladies Open French teenager Kristina Mladenovic claimed her maiden title - in the first ever WTA 125 event.

WTA 125 events are designed to give experience to up-and-coming players, and 19-year-old Mladenovic gave an early indication the new tournaments may succeed in that aim with victory over Chang Kai-Chen in straights in the final, 6-4 6-3.

The triumph added to doubles victory in the same event.

"It's the first time I get two titles at a WTA event - it's been a great week and I am very happy!" Mladenovic said. "I'm so glad with the result."
