Murray positive in defeat

Andy Murray will reflect on the "best year" of his career following his defeat to Roger Federer in the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour Finals.

Murray tasted Olympic glory and bagged his maiden grand slam in a stunning 2012 but he failed to cap it off with victory at the O2.

Federer has been the dominant force on the indoor scene and he had too many weapons for Murray who fell to a 7-6 6-2 defeat.

Murray will now take a short break before preparing for the Australian Open and he will look back on the year in a positive manner.

"I would have liked to have finished with a win. But that didn't happen," Murray said. "But for me, it's been the best year of my career by a mile. So why I would look back on that negatively now would be silly because I've achieved things I've never achieved before. I have to look back on it positively. If I don't, then that would be worrying."

Ivan Lendl has been credited with taking Murray over the line at the majors and the Brit has praised his coach.

"He's obviously helped me a lot," Murray said. "There's been a lot of decisions made, off the court decisions that are very important to your career, also decisions when you're out there playing matches, as well.

"Moving over to Spain when I was younger was a very hard decision to make, and that would be up there with this one. But since I've maybe been on the tour, I think it was a step that I needed to take and was very important to me and helped me get over that final hurdle."
