Roger Federer will skip a number of high-profile events next season after cutting down on his schedule.

The world No. 2 has released his schedule for the 2013 season, and it has emerged he will miss the Masters 1000 events in Miami and Monte Carlo. It means he will have a two-month break between Indian Wells and the Madrid Open.

At 31, with over 12 years of service and 600 matches played, Federer is now exempt from the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 player commitment.

Surprisingly though, he has also left the Swiss Indoors out of his schedule. Federer is a five-time champion at his home event.

"Basically I've given myself enough space," Federer said recently. "It's about just making sure you manage your schedule correctly.

"I have to make sure I create my schedule so it makes sense for my practice schedule. I need to practise a whole lot more next year, because this year, I hardly did have an opportunity to do that. I have some catching up to do in that standpoint."
