Australian Open comes too soon for Fish
Mardy Fish has confirmed he will miss the Australian Open in January as he continues to recover from heart surgery.
The world No. 27, who has not played since September, when he was forced to withdraw from his US Open fourth round clash against Roger Federer, is still suffering health problems.
Fish had an operation in May to treat an accelerated heartbeat, and although he returned to action at Wimbledon, the American suffered heart palpitations in New York.
His agent, John Tobias, revealed Fish is "improving" but would not be ready for the first grand slam of the 2013 season in Melbourne. The former world No. 7 is planning to return to action at the SAP Open in San Jose in February.
"The good news is that Mardy's health is improving and he is back on the court slowing getting back into his regular workouts," Tobias told Reuters.
