Juan Ignacio Chela has announced his retirement from tennis at the age of 33.

The Argentine, who won the last of his six ATP Tour titles in 2010, amassed $6.5 million in prize money during a career spanning 14 years.

The clay-court specialist, who reached a career high of world No. 15 back in 2004, reached three grand slam quarter-finals - twice at the French Open and once at the US Open.

His last major quarter-final came at Roland Garros last year, where he was beaten by Andy Murray.

"After many years the time has come to move to another stage of my life," Chela wrote on Twitter as he confirmed his retirement.
