Clijsters beats Venus in farewell match

Former world No. 1 Kim Clijsters brought down the curtain on a glittering tennis career after she beat Venus Williams in an exhibition match in Belgium.

Clijsters, who won 41 career singles titles, including four grand slams, officially hung up her racket following the US Open, where she is a three-time champion.

However, she bowed out on a high with victory in front of her home fans in Antwerp; 13,000 turned up to see her defeat her American rival 6-3 6-3.

"I had no regrets at stopping my career on August 29 at the US Open, and I still don't have any," Clijsters said.

"There's not just tennis in my life. I like cooking, gardening, reading, decorating the house, putting up the Christmas tree and running."

Clijsters retired from tennis in 2007 to give birth to daughter Jada, but returned two years later as she became the first mother to win a grand slam title since 1980.

She defended her title at Flushing Meadows in 2010 and victory at the 2011 Australian Open saw her return to world No. 1 for the first time since 2006.
